Twitter, the social media platform formerly known as X, has been a subject of much speculation due to Elon Musk’s involvement and the recent changes on the platform. Reports suggest that while the platform may be losing some users, it is also becoming more compulsive for those who are still active on it. This indicates that even though the user count may not be increasing, the engagement level on the platform is on the rise.

According to the E.U. Digital Services Act, large online platforms like Twitter are required to report their user counts regularly for transparency. In January 2024, Twitter reported 61.8 million logged in E.U. users and 49.6 million logged out guests, totaling 111.4 million overall users in the region. This shows a slight decrease from the previous report, with a dip of 0.8 million users.

While Twitter may be losing users, it is not experiencing a drastic decline, and people are not turning away from the platform in large numbers. The platform claims that those who remain active are spending more time on the app, with 250 million daily active users still engaging with the platform. However, Twitter has not seen any significant growth as projected by Elon Musk.

Despite the fluctuating user counts, Twitter remains an important platform for many users, particularly those involved in communities centered around topics like sports. The platform’s established communities and connections keep users engaged, regardless of the changes introduced by Elon Musk or the platform’s broader political commentary.

Twitter claims to be enhancing its ad system, offering more opportunities for advertisers to reach their target audiences. For businesses looking to connect with Twitter users, especially those still active on the platform, advertising on Twitter remains a viable option. Despite Musk’s controversial stances, the platform still boasts a massive user base, providing ample potential for relevant reach.

While Twitter may be facing challenges in user growth and retention, it continues to be a significant platform for many communities and individuals. As businesses navigate through the changing landscape of social media advertising, Twitter remains a platform that should be considered for its engagement levels and potential reach, despite the ongoing shifts and controversies surrounding it.
