Recently, I came across a surprising discovery involving Google’s AI Overview search result and one of my own articles from WIRED. The AI Overview feature, designed to provide generative AI responses to online queries, utilized a significant portion of one of my articles to answer a user’s question. This unexpected usage of my writing has raised concerns about the future of journalism and the ethical implications of artificial intelligence in the field.
