A group of workers who were fired by SpaceX recently filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk, alleging that the company has a sexist and discriminatory culture. The workers claim that Musk fostered a “Dark Ages” environment at SpaceX, where women were treated as sexual objects and subjected to lewd sexual banter. The civil complaint, filed in a California court in Los Angeles, accuses Musk of terminating the workers after they published an open letter detailing their concerns and calling on the company’s board to distance itself from the CEO.
The lawsuit, which charges Musk and SpaceX with sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and wrongful termination, seeks accountability for the alleged actions at trial. The plaintiffs’ attorney, Laurie Burgess, has stated that Musk believes he is above the law and that they are looking forward to holding him accountable. One of the plaintiffs, Paige Holland-Thielen, expressed hope that the lawsuit would encourage their colleagues to continue fighting for a better workplace at SpaceX. The fired workers, all represented by the lawsuit, allege that they were dismissed for speaking out against the toxic work environment that Musk allegedly created. According to the filing, SpaceX fired each of the eight former workers in 2022, citing various reasons.
