With over 200 miles of range, an affordable price tag below $26,000, and a unique retro-inspired interior aesthetic, the Inster seems like a promising addition to the EV market. However, despite its appeal, this subcompact EV is being denied a North American debut, leaving many potential customers disappointed.

The North American market is in desperate need of affordable EV options, yet car manufacturers like Tesla, Ford, GM, and Volvo are still struggling to deliver on their promises of budget-friendly electric vehicles. The Hyundai Inster features a compact design, positioned somewhere between a Hyundai Elantra and a Mitsubishi Mirage in terms of size. It offers two battery options, with the longer range version capable of achieving 355km (220 miles) on a single charge. The electric motor delivers 95 horsepower in the base model and 113hp in the Long Range variant, along with 108 pound-feet of torque. The interior of the Inster is equipped with modern amenities such as screens, physical controls, a wireless charging pad, and a heated steering wheel, providing a comfortable and convenient driving experience.

Despite its impressive features and affordability, the Hyundai Inster will initially launch in Korea, followed by European, Middle Eastern, and Asia-Pacific markets, excluding North America from its distribution. This decision limits the accessibility of the Inster to consumers in regions where it could have made a significant impact on the adoption of electric vehicles. The absence of North America from the launch plan is particularly disappointing, considering the high demand for affordable EVs in the region.
