WhatsApp for iOS is enhancing the group chat experience by introducing a new feature that allows users to create events directly within the chat. This update brings a new level of functionality to the popular instant messaging platform, making it easier for users to plan and organize activities with their friends and family.

The event creation feature was initially discovered in a beta version of WhatsApp for Android, but now it is officially being released for iPhone users. This update also includes other improvements such as quick reply shortcuts for video notes and an in-app dialler for the Calls tab. The addition of the event option in group chats was first noticed by feature tracker WABetaInfo in WhatsApp for iOS version 24.13.72.

Users can access the new event feature by tapping the “+” icon within the chat, which opens up the activity menu with the option to create an event. They can then input the event name, description, start time, and even add a location if necessary. Additionally, users can toggle the WhatsApp call link option to easily start a call with participants when the event begins. This feature is now available to all iOS users, and can be accessed by updating to the latest version of WhatsApp.

New features on WhatsApp are typically rolled out gradually, so it may take some time for all users to receive the update. The company recently introduced Meta AI, an artificial intelligence chatbot, in certain regions including India. There are reports suggesting that WhatsApp will allow users to choose between two AI models: Llama 3-70B and Llama 3-405B. The former provides quick responses, while the latter is Meta’s largest AI model with 400 billion parameters. However, the Llama 3-405B model has not yet been made available to the public.

The new event feature on WhatsApp for iOS is a significant enhancement that will make group chats more interactive and useful for users. With the ability to create events directly within the chat, users can easily plan activities and stay connected with their friends and family. This update, along with other improvements like quick reply shortcuts and AI chatbots, demonstrates WhatsApp’s commitment to providing a seamless messaging experience for its users.
