Recently, AT&T customers have been experiencing service interruptions that have left many seeing “SOS” instead of their usual signal bars. This issue has prompted customers to reach out to AT&T for help, reporting issues such as being stuck in SOS mode or having no phone service at all.

According to The Mobile Report, AT&T has identified a failure at one of its switching centers as the root cause of the widespread service disruptions. This failure has led to a chain reaction of problems, including delays in service, the inability to provision new SIM cards, and, for some users, a complete loss of network connectivity.

While the outage may primarily affect iPhone and other Apple device users, reports on Reddit also suggest that some Android devices are experiencing service issues as well. The spike in user reports on Downdetector further confirms the widespread nature of the problem. Although there has been a slight decrease in reports since the peak of the outage, the Downdetector graph is showing signs of increasing activity once again.

AT&T spokesperson Jim Kimberley has acknowledged the service outage and is currently investigating the issue to determine the cause and find a resolution. This outage comes on the heels of AT&T settling a $950,000 fine with the FCC for a 911 outage in August 2023 and a work stoppage by the Communications Workers of America in the Southeast during negotiations.

While service outages are never ideal, AT&T is working diligently to address the current issues and restore normal service as quickly as possible. Customers are advised to stay updated on AT&T’s official communication channels for the latest updates on the situation.
