Anova, a popular brand known for its sous vide cookers, will be implementing a subscription fee for new users who wish to access additional features through the mobile companion app. This fee, starting at $1.99 per month or $9.99 per year, is aimed at providing users with enhanced functionalities for controlling the appliance remotely.

New users who create an account in the app after August 21st will be required to pay the subscription fee in order to unlock the full potential of the sous vide cooker. This move is similar to other companies, like Snoo, who have recently shifted previously free features behind a monthly paywall.

Existing users and individuals who purchase an Anova cooker before the implementation of the subscription fee will not be affected and can continue to enjoy all app features for free. However, account creation, which was previously optional, will become mandatory for all users moving forward.

The subscription fee will provide users with various convenience features, such as the ability to remotely start a sous vide cook, adjust the temperature, receive cooking status updates, and access recipes. These features aim to enhance the overall cooking experience and make it more convenient for users to utilize the sous vide cooker.

Anova CEO, Stephen Svajian, justified the introduction of the subscription fee as a response to the growing user base and increased demands on the company’s resources. With users engaging in hundreds of millions of cooking sessions through the app, Anova needed to find a sustainable way to support and cater to their expanding community.

Anova’s decision to introduce a subscription fee for new users of its sous vide cookers signifies a shift towards a more sustainable business model. While existing users can continue to enjoy the app features for free, new users will need to pay a nominal fee to access additional functionalities. This move underscores the company’s commitment to providing a high-quality user experience and supporting its growing user base.
