The release of the Dawntrail expansion for Final Fantasy XIV has sparked mixed reactions from players just days after its official launch. One of the most significant points of contention has been the Viper job introduced in the expansion. Players have voiced concerns about the complexity of the job’s skill rotation, describing it as “busy.” In response to this feedback, Square Enix has announced a series of changes that will be implemented in upcoming patches to address these issues.

Director Naoki ‘Yoshi-P’ Yoshida outlined the changes planned for various classes in a recent blog post. The primary focus will be on refining the Viper job to reduce its demand for directional requirements and adjust the effects of certain actions. These modifications are set to be introduced gradually in patch 7.05, with additional tweaks to the job’s range in the next patch.

The artistic mage Pictomancer will also receive a bug fix in patch 7.01, addressing concerns related to the Subtractive Palette and Aetherhues. Additionally, the Monk class will undergo revisions to rectify issues with potency levels and the stacking of the Fury status, which were unintentionally altered in previous updates.

Several other classes will see changes to enhance their gameplay experience. The Astrologian job will have its recast times adjusted to improve usability during damage burst phases. Similarly, the Samurai and Red Mage classes will receive alterations to their recast timers and effects, respectively. Black Mages will benefit from adjustments to their MP recovery and attack potencies in future updates.

Tanks, as a whole, will undergo modifications to address player concerns about maintaining enemy aggro in high-damage situations. Dark Knight and Gunbreaker characters, in particular, will see changes to their movement abilities to increase enmity effects and improve overall gameplay balance.

Despite these ongoing adjustments, the Dawntrail expansion rollout has generally been considered smoother than previous expansions like Endwalker, which faced issues with long queue times. This improved experience can be attributed to the implementation of new servers and congestion-easing measures prior to launch. Director Yoshida has reassured players that not only will job-related concerns be addressed promptly but that other issues affecting the overall gameplay experience will also be resolved in due course.

The feedback-driven changes in response to player concerns highlight Square Enix’s commitment to maintaining a balanced and enjoyable gameplay environment for Final Fantasy XIV players. The ongoing development of the Dawntrail expansion demonstrates the developer’s dedication to addressing player feedback and continuously improving the game for its dedicated fan base.
