Developed by Bohemia Interactive, Vigor is a free-to-play survival shooter set in the Scandi-pocalypse of a ruined Norway in an alternate nineties. The game, which has been available on Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch for over six years, is finally making its way to PC. Players are thrust into a wasteland world filled with roving groups of survivors known as Outlanders, who are affiliated with various factions.

Vigor offers a variety of modes, including Shootout deathmatches, team Elimination battles, and collect-and-extract Loot Events. Players can choose to go solo, team up with a friend, or form larger groups to compete against rival Outlanders. By winning encounters, players can gather resources to upgrade their shelter, craft better weapons, and collect materials in the classic survival-crafting loop.

Despite being on consoles for years, Vigor will only be launching into early access on Steam next month. Players eager to get a head start can purchase a Reinforcements Pack for $20, which includes early access, bonus weapons, exclusive cosmetics, consumable items, and more. Early access is expected to last approximately three months before the game transitions into a full free-to-play release.

Bohemia Interactive has emphasized the importance of receiving early feedback from players to refine and polish the game before its full release. While Vigor was initially designed for console platforms, adapting it for PC presented significant challenges for the developers. The early access period will serve as an opportunity to address any issues and make necessary improvements based on player feedback.

The decision to delay Vigor’s release on PC, despite numerous requests from the community, was not elaborated upon by Bohemia. However, the developers have acknowledged that an overhaul to the game’s gunplay has been long requested and will be tested in the PC version from the beginning. The exact release date for the early access version of Vigor on Steam is yet to be announced.

Following the early access phase on PC, Vigor is expected to become fully free-to-play and will support cross-play with its console counterparts. Players will have the opportunity to engage in multiplayer matches with friends on different platforms. The transition to free-to-play is projected to occur towards the end of summer, pending a smooth launch and positive player feedback.

The long-awaited arrival of Vigor on PC is a significant milestone for fans of the survival shooter genre. With new gameplay features, an emphasis on player feedback, and plans for cross-play functionality, the PC version of Vigor holds promise for both existing players and newcomers alike. Be sure to stay tuned for updates on the official release date and additional details as the game prepares to make its mark on the PC gaming community.
